The US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has offered Tallgrass Energy a right-of-way grant for its Southeast Wyoming Carbon Dioxide Sequestration Project in Laramie County, advancing the commercial use of federally managed underground pore space for permanent CO2 storage.
The grant covers approximately 480 acres of federal subsurface pore space. It follows the BLM’s April 2025 decision approving the project after an environmental assessment under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
The grant allows permanent subsurface CO2 storage, subject to final approval of Class VI injection wells by the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality. These permits are required before CO2 injection can begin.
The decision marks a further step towards commercial-scale carbon storage in Wyoming, as Tallgrass advances the project through the remaining regulatory requirements.
