BKV expands CCS portfolio in Texas with two new facilities

BKV Corporation has expanded its carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) portfolio in Texas with the start-up of two new facilities, Cotton Cove and Eagle Ford.

The two facilities are now operational and are expected to collectively sequester more than 120,000 metric tonnes of CO2 annually. Their addition brings BKV’s operating CCS portfolio to three facilities in Texas, alongside its Barnett Zero project.

The Cotton Cove facility, located in the Fort Worth Basin near Fort Worth, Texas, captures CO2 emissions from BKV’s co-located midstream operations and permanently stores the captured carbon through an underground injection well. The project was developed in collaboration with Banpu Power US.

The Eagle Ford facility, located near Freer in South Texas, captures CO2 from a natural gas processing plant serving Eagle Ford Shale production. The captured CO2 is compressed, transported and permanently stored through BKV’s injection infrastructure at an adjacent site. The project was developed through BKV’s strategic partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP).

Chris Kalnin, Chief Executive Officer of BKV, said the two facilities demonstrate the company’s ability to develop and operate commercial-scale carbon sequestration projects while expanding its carbon management platform. The new projects support BKV’s broader CCS strategy, which combines its upstream, midstream and carbon management capabilities. The company is continuing to develop additional CCS projects across Texas as it expands its CO2 storage capacity.

The expansion adds new carbon storage capacity in Texas and reflects the growing role of commercial CCS projects in supporting emissions reduction efforts across energy and industrial sectors.
