Cool Planet advances construction of carbon capture demonstration plant at Holcim’s Höver

Cool Planet Technologies has announced that construction of its carbon capture demonstration plant at Holcim’s Höver cement facility in Germany is progressing, with assembly work now underway and major equipment deliveries complete.

The plant, designed to capture up to 10,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, uses Cool Planet’s modular membrane‑based technology. All major prefabricated modules have been delivered to the Höver site, and installation is underway, with completion of module connections expected in April 2026. Demonstration operations are scheduled to begin in mid‑2026, followed by a 12‑month demonstration programme.

Cool Planet’s membrane technology is prefabricated off-site and assembled quickly on location. The process modules were fabricated and initially assembled in the UK by Blackrow Engineering, with other equipment sourced and manufactured in the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy. Blackrow’s onsite team is supporting the assembly process.

Andrew Corner, CEO of Cool Planet, commented: “We are excited to be in the final stages of building our plant at Höver and look forward to seeing this ground‑breaking plant operational in the coming months. This will mark a major milestone in the industrial deployment of our technology and positions Cool Planet at the forefront of lower cost, scalable industrial carbon capture solutions.”

The Höver project follows earlier pilot testing of the technology at the same cement plant in 2022. With the demonstration plant set to begin operations later this year, Cool Planet aims to establish its capture system at industrial scale as part of broader efforts to decarbonise emissions from heavy industry.
