Fluid Flower

FluidFlower present at the World CCUS Conference

The FluidFlower is an innovative experimental laboratory developed by an interdisciplinary team at the University of Bergen, designed to advance both scientific research and public understanding of geological carbon dioxide (CO2) storage. Its unique design and capabilities make it a valuable tool for studying the dynamics of CO2 injection and migration in subsurface environments.

The FluidFlower has been central to international benchmark studies aimed at validating reservoir simulators used in geological carbon storage (GCS). In one such study, nine research groups worldwide provided forecasts based on detailed characterizations of the FluidFlower’s sands. The comparison of these forecasts with experimental data from the FluidFlower offered valuable assessments of the simulators’ capabilities in capturing CO2 injection and post-injection dynamics.

At the 2025 World CCUS Conference, attendees will have the opportunity to observe a live CO2 injection, highlighting its safety and reliability. The project’s next phase will also be demonstrated, featuring the use of VR-connected digital twin technology to enhance data visualisation and optimise the model automatically.
